Courtney Miller at Meraki Therapy Services, LLC in Lafayette

I worked with Courtney Miller, LPC, at Meraki Therapy for about a year. In the beginning, I felt supported and found her trauma-informed approach helpful. She had sat with me through a lot of grief and knew how badly abrupt terminations hurt me. Because of that, I believed she understood that being dropped through email—especially while I was speaking up about oppression—would be re-traumatizing.

After I emailed her about feeling unsafe with the patriotic décor in her LGBTQ-affirming practice, therapy was ended abruptly by email the next day, with no opportunity for discussion or repair. Her message reframed my concern as “assumptions and accusations” and included referral links—several of which were out-of-state or not appropriate matches.

The lack of accountability and willingness to talk after a year of trust was deeply painful and re-traumatizing. Therapy is meant to model repair after rupture; being dismissed over email made my concerns feel like a problem to be managed rather than an experience to be understood.

When I originally posted about my experience on Google, a wave of new five-star reviews appeared soon after, and my review was later hidden from public view. That reinforced the sense of being silenced.

This is my experience. Clients deserve care that meets them with openness, accountability, and repair—not silence, not punishment. Be careful who you trust with your story.
